3 Treats for Your Island Quest

Every time I go on an island trip, there are a few little things I find myself always craving — the kind of treats that feel like a true part of the Maldivian rhythm. Whether it's something refreshing, nostalgic, or indulgent, these small bites and sips have become part of my island ritual. So if you're heading off on an Island Quest with Ark Quests, here are three simple, must-try things I personally recommend you don’t miss.
1. Kurumba – The OG Island Drink
One of the first things I look for when I get to any island is a freshly cut kurumba (young coconut). There’s just something so grounding about sipping coconut water straight from the shell. It's cool, naturally sweet, and feels like it instantly rehydrates not just your body, but your soul too. Some days, I’ll even ask for a squeeze of lime to give it a little kick — trust me, it hits differently.
Island Tip: Ask for it chilled or with a squeeze of lime for an extra zing.

2. Juice Petty – Pure Island Nostalgia
This one is a throwback to my childhood — and honestly, I still go looking for a juice petty every time I travel. It's basically a frozen popsicle in a sealed plastic packet, and it’s pure nostalgia in your hand. The most common flavor is rose syrup (bundung), but you’ll also find others like passionfruit, lemonade, or mango — and I still get that same joy unwrapping one under the shade of a palm tree. If you see a local shop freezer full of these, grab one!
Island Tip: Let it thaw just slightly before you bite the top off — it tastes better when it’s a little slushy.
3. Magnum – The Coolest Luxury
This one’s not traditionally Maldivian, but if you know, you know. A Magnum ice cream on a hot island afternoon just feels like a little luxury you didn’t know you needed. Whether it’s the classic, almond, or white chocolate, it’s my go-to after a swim or when I need a treat before sunset. It’s also surprisingly easy to find — even in the tiniest island shops.
Island Tip: Cool down island-style: ocean first, Magnum second.

Island Living, One Bite at a Time
For me, these three simple treats have become a kind of island tradition. They’re not just snacks — they’re part of the experience, woven into the slow pace and simple joys of the islands.
If you're joining us on an Ark Quest, I hope you get to try them too. And if you’ve got your own must-haves, tag us @arkquests.mv — I’d love to see what makes your island day just right.
